Clothing in the 19th century was very detailed, ornate, flowery having lace, silks, satins, ruffles, feathers, gathers and bows. Tight-wasted, full-skirted dresses became popular during 1830’s.Women wore skirts, which they would raise in front to show pretty multicolored petticoats or hoop skirts and crinolines. In the second part of 19th century the style called for waists laced as tightly as possible. Bustle gowns appeared in the 1870’s. Later the shirtwaist – a type of a blouse worn with a separate skirt became fashionable in the gay 1890’s. in 1880’s business suites for the ladies were introduced.
